What is Whole Body Vibration

Whole Body Vibration machines transmit energy to your body, either by using sound waves or by using a vibration platform, forcing your muscles to relax and contract.

If you take a minute to focus your thoughts on your core muscles and contract them just once and let them go you will realize that it took a little bit of thinking to make your muscles do what you wanted them to do. Now, imagine doing that up to 50 times PER SECOND! The small, quick movements of the machines (or the vibration caused by the Sonic Machines) cause our muscles to contract and relax to ensure that we do not fall down. This repetition of muscles relaxing and contracting makes your body stronger, and provides many other benefits besides just helping to build strength.

Vibration machines are also believed to help boost your immunity by helping your Lymphatic System work to its highest potential. The Lymphatic System is a network of tissues and organs that help the body absorb fats and helps your body to fight infection and disease. It helps drain fluids from virtually all parts of the body and bring things that shouldn’t be in our bodies to the lymph nodes. Lymph nodes are filters for dangerous substances. They attack foreign substances and germs. Your body relies on muscle contractions to move the lymph fluid through your body to your lymph nodes.

While vibration platforms only give subtle movement, they are so effective that “NASA-funded scientists suggest that astronauts might prevent bone loss by standing on a lightly vibrating plate for 10-20 minutes each day.”

Studies on whole-body vibration have concluded the following:

“WBV training may be an effective intervention for health promotion in the aging population.” 1

“In healthy postmenopausal women, a 24-week whole-body vibration program is feasible and able to modify muscle strength, balance, and hip bone density, which are well-recognized risk factors for hip fracture…” 2

“WBV can stimulate GH secretion, reduce circulating cortisol and reduce bone resorption.” 3

“…in combination with the balance exercise program, the short-term WBV therapy is beneficial in improving balance, muscle strength and HbA1c, in elderly patients with diabetic neuropathy who are at high risk for suffering falls.” 4

“WBV alone stimulates GH release and lactate production in severely obese female subjects…” 5

Why should we use vibration machines?

They make us stronger and healthier! Here are some of the advantages believed to be gained by using WBV machines:

Increased bone density/Stronger bone
Increased blood and lymph circulation
Increased muscle strength
Back pain relief
Reduced swelling
Reduced inflammation
Improved muscle strength
Improved nerve function
Improved balance
Improved energy levels
Reduction in stress hormones
Increased flexibility
Weight loss
Reduction in cellulite
